Jacksonville, Fla. (Jan. 6, 2015) – This January, Floridians will have the opportunity to join Jacksonville Running Back Denard Robinson and help those affected by hunger in the state. On Friday, Jan. 9, Robinson, along with Walmart and Feeding Northeast Florida (FNEFL), will team up to launch the second annual Defeat Hunger Bowl to both collect food and raise awareness for those struggling with hunger in our area.
Non-perishable food items will be accepted all month at donation boxes placed inside 105 Walmart locations throughout northern and central Florida, with all donations benefitting local Feeding America food banks in the state. While all non-perishable food items will be accepted, those interested may purchase pre-packaged $5 food donation bags at all participating locations.
“No one should have to worry about where their next meal is going to come from,” Robinson said. “Join me in donating food at Walmart all month, and together we can make a difference in the lives of people right here in North Florida.”
Robinson will help promote the campaign by making an appearance at the Walmart at 13490 Beach Blvd. at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9. The event is free and open to the public, though food donations are encouraged. Fans in attendance will have the chance to meet Robinson and receive a special edition signed photo-card from the running back.
“Most people are more focused on supporting the fight against hunger during the holidays, but the need is there for many in our community throughout the year,” said FNEFL President and CEO Bruce Ganger. “We’re grateful for Walmart’s involvement and support, along with professional athletes like Denard. By supporting the networks of food banks in our state, they are helping to ensure that no one goes hungry in our communities.”
Additional corporate partners involved in presenting the Defeat Hunger Bowl include Kraft, Mondelez and Campbell’s.
