JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 21, 2019) — Feeding Northeast Florida was recently named an official partner with the Alliance for Period Supplies, a national program that serves to help people who struggle to purchase period supplies.
The Alliance for Period Supplies launched last year under the sponsorship of U by Kotex®, and selected Feeding Northeast Florida as one of its allied programs dedicated to ensuring that individuals in need have access to the essential period products necessary to fully participate in daily life.
According to research from the Alliance for Period Supplies, one in four women struggle to purchase period products every month.
“I had no idea what the domino effect was when people cannot afford to purchase period products – when they have to choose between buying a box of tampons or putting food on the table for their families,” said Chief Operating Officer & Chief Strategy Officer of Feeding Northeast Florida Micheal Neff. “We now know that one in five low-income people miss work, school and other events due to lack of access to period supplies.”
According to The Alliance of Period of Supplies, these instances were linked to reported feelings of embarrassment, disappointment and depression. “Now that we are an official partner in this program, we will ensure that people in North Florida will not have to go without these essential products anymore,” said Neff.
Period supplies will be offered to our agency partners at Feeding Northeast Florida and through our direct mobile food distributions.
Feeding Northeast Florida will also start accepting donations of new, unopened tampons, liners, and pads.
