JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 12, 2019) — When THE PLAYERS Championship returns to Northeast Florida this week, it will not only put the spotlight on one of biggest golf tournaments in the world, it also puts the spotlight on food insecurity via partnerships and fundraisers with Feeding Northeast Florida.
The nonprofit community food bank has been named The PLAYERS Championship’s Charity of the Day for Sunday, March 17. On that day, the tournament will celebrate Feeding Northeast Florida’s efforts to fight food insecurity. Tournament attendees will be greeted by Feeding Northeast Florida staff and volunteers and will get a pair of Feeding Northeast Florida sunglasses (while supplies last).
Additionally, 5-time PGA TOUR winner, 2014 FedExCup champion and Ponte Vedra Beach resident Billy Horschel is asking the First Coast community to help fight food insecurity by donating to Feeding Northeast Florida, a nonprofit community food bank.
Horschel will donate $1,000 for each birdie and $5,000 for each eagle he makes during the THE PLAYERS Championship 2019 from March 14 – 17. He has named his campaign #DriveOutHunger.
“It’s more than just the money,” Billy Horschel said. “A lot of people can write the check and then feel good about it, but I want to be a part of something where you can see the end result, can see the light at the end of the tunnel and when you’re helping feed people, you can see the light.”
Horschel is challenging his friends, sponsors and the community to help #DriveOutHunger. Every $1 donated will enable Feeding Northeast Florida to provide six meals to those in need.
“We are so grateful to be recognized by THE PLAYERS Championship as one of the Charities of the Day for the 2019 tournament. This delivers such a huge audience for our cause, and helps us get out our message about the enormity of the hunger issue here in our community,” said Feeding Northeast Florida President and CEO Frank Castillo. “We are also so grateful Billy Horschel is providing us with much-needed funds to transport healthy, nutritious foods to the people who need them most, and we hope the community will join Horschel’s campaign.”
