Jacksonville, Fla. (Nov. 25, 2014) – C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc. (C&S), a wholesale grocery supply company that supports Winn Dixie’s local distribution system, has donated $40,000 to Feeding Northeast Florida (FNEFL) to focus on school nourishment programs in the Baldwin area just west of Jacksonville.
According to C&S Senior Director of Community Involvement Gina Goff, the company’s charitable foundation chose to keep its giving “close to home,” since its main distribution center is located in Baldwin.
“Each year, C&S donates hundreds of tons of food to community pantries, food kitchens and relief organizations across the country,” Goff said. “We’re happy to support Feeding Northeast Florida in its on-going efforts to provide food relief to those throughout our community who need it most.”
FNEFL President and CEO Bruce Ganger says the donation will be used to create ‘SnackPacks’ and conduct large-scale, community-wide food distributions in the Baldwin area.
“C&S has been a great supporter of the fight against hunger in Northeast Florida for several years now, and we’re glad to have their continued support for this and other projects we’re involved with today,” Ganger said.
An estimated 322,300 people in 17 Northeast Florida Counties turn to food pantries and meal service programs to feed themselves and their families, according to the Hunger in America Study released last month by Feeding Northeast Florida and Feeding America. Of those people, the study estimated that 29 percent are children under age 18 and 15 percent are seniors age 60 or older.
