Jacksonville-based Feeding Northeast Florida was one of 12 regional food banks across the country to receive a $120,000 donation from Publix.

During an event on Monday, Nov. 16, The grocery chain donated about $1.5 million to food banks in its operating area that partner with the Feeding America national food network.

Feeding Northeast Florida, along with the other food banks, is using the money to acquire refrigerated trucks to transport perishable items donated by food retailers.

Also, Publix delivered a truck load of food to Feeding Northeast Florida for distribution to its 180 member food pantries in 17 counties.

Other Florida food banks to receive the grants were Feeding Tampa Bay, Feeding South Florida, Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida and Treasure Coast Food Bank.
