Meet Hunger Hero Juanita! She volunteered her time recently at a mobile pantry at Summerville Baptist Church, sponsored by WellCare Health Plans.

She said volunteering for the cause is important because the need is so great.

“To help the neighbors, for those people who do not have enough food to carry themselves from week to week or day to day, they really need just a little help and support,” she said.

This mobile pantry provided meals to children and families, seniors and veterans in our community who are struggling with hunger.

“We have a couple of people, one who has several children, very little money, a working family and they just do not have enough to feed their children. And then we have several senior citizens who do not have enough money to buy all the things that they need from month to month,” Juanita said.

She knows how much it means to those they served.

“Oh my God this is a wonderful thing. It means the world to them to be able to feel like somebody cares enough to make sure that they get a decent meal,” she said.

Contributions from individual donors and corporate partners enable Feeding Northeast Florida to deploy mobile pantries to communities in need.

“They’re outstanding individuals — humanitarians are above all others. When you make a personal sacrifice to someone other than yourself, you are a wonderful individual,” Juanita said of those who make these efforts a reality.
