2017 Citrus Drive Results
Our 5th annual Citrus Drive was a very successful one! In a 4 hour time window on Saturday, February 11, 2017 374 total volunteers at 6 site locations collected 30,174 lbs of citrus fruit from 100 homes and a Satsuma grove. There was an article in the Times Union and great coverage in social media sites, church bulletins, even a billboard in Orange Park. This nutritious fruit will be distributed within one week, and the vitamin C will provide much needed immunity boost during cold/flu season for thousands of needy individuals and families.
Breakdown of fruit by site:
- Chets Creek (Beaches/Southside)… 5196 lbs
- Mandarin… 7496 lbs
- Orange Park… 5653 lbs
- Arlington… 3259 lbs
- Westside… 2362 lbs
- Crescent City Satsuma Grove: 6216 lbs, 20 volunteers at 3 pick dates.
Huge kudos and thank you to all the volunteers, tree donors, and team members that contributed to this year’s success – especially our site coordinators (Kassie Berger, Donald Debovoise, Brian Fullford, Michael Neff, Kaci Honeycutt), as well as Sarah Hall for her media relations efforts, and Society of St. Andrews for their continued partnership for this event.
